Solid lyrics, great melody. This arrangement focuses mainly on the atmospheric aspect of the piece rather than the rhythm, which brings out choral qualities especially well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Fields-of_NEW_MP4.mp4\"><strong>&#8221;Fields of Gold&#8221;<\/strong>:<\/a> (SATB) <em><strong>Sting&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> beautifully melancholic love song. Also available in a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Fields_SSAA_NEW_MP4.mp4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">setting<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Fields_SSAA_MP4.mp4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong> for <em>SSAA<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Im-gonna_NEW_Mp4.mp4\">&#8221;I&#8217;m Gonna Be (500 Miles)&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SATB) One and only hit by the <strong><em>The Proclaimers<\/em><\/strong> from 1987. Such a simple song, but all the more effective! This is a rather popular arrangement of mine that also comes in a SSAA and SSAB setting. The atmosphere of the song is maybe best represented by the lines:<em> &#8221;And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills; when a landslide took me down&#8221;. <\/em>It&#8217;s a great song by <em><strong>Stevie Nicks<\/strong><\/em> with a never ending stream of cover versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Take-on-me2_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;Take On Me&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SSATB) With this song the Norwegian band <strong><em>A-ha<\/em><\/strong> created one of the greatest hits from the 80-ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Time-in-a_NEW_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;Time in a Bottle&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (S[S]ATB) A touchstone for every singer-songwriter. <em><strong>Jim Croce<\/strong><\/em> wrote it &#8211; probably because &#8221;<em>there never seems to be enough time to do the things you wanna do&#8221;.<\/em> I&#8217;m glad to present the arrangement in the interpretation of the <em>Birdhouse Singers<\/em>. My arrangement is for <em>SSATB<\/em>. The canonic passages that help creating the &#8221;spacious&#8221; atmosphere sound more difficult than they actually are, since everybody is only repeating the same melody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2025<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Helter2_NEW_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;Helter Skelter&#8221;<\/a>:<\/strong> (SSATB) From the <em><strong>Beatles&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> <em>&#8221;White Album&#8221;<\/em>. A wild explosion of a song, inspired by a huge slide attraction on the London Fairground. Some call it the first <em>Heavy Metal<\/em> piece ever written. One might also say, an unconventional choice for an <em>a cappella<\/em> arrangement. But don&#8217;t we all have to challenge ourselves once in a while? Here I used (for obvious reasons) quite a bit of <em>glissandi<\/em>. A great song about &#8221;getting older&#8221; &#8211; and hopefully wiser as well ;). There&#8217;s also version where I combined it in a <em>Mash-Up<\/em> with <em>Thomas Rhett&#8217;s<\/em> wonderful country song <em>&#8221;Remember you young&#8221;<\/em>. It&#8217;s reflecting the helplessness in dealing with the loss of a person, and letting the people around you know that you care.<br>Sadly enough, the song also relates to lead singer <em>Chester Bennington&#8217;s<\/em> suicide in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-gray-color\">NEW 2024<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-Boy_26_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;The Boy in the Bubble&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SSATB) As far as I&#8217;m concerned, one of the very best tracks from <strong><em>Paul Simon&#8217;s<\/em><\/strong> 1986 album <em>&#8221;Graceland&#8221;<\/em>. Typical of <em>Paul Simon<\/em>&#8217;s poetry, it combines some rather dark lyrics in the form of a lullaby (<em>&#8221;don&#8217;t cry, baby, don&#8217;t cry&#8221;<\/em>) with a somewhat ironic optimism (<em>&#8221;These are the days of miracle and wonder&#8221;<\/em>). I find they have a touching simplicity and some thoughts that might be very relatable to teenagers. Solid lyrics, great melody. This arrangement focuses mainly on the atmospheric aspect of the piece rather than the rhythm, which brings out the choral qualities especially well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-gray-color\">NEW 2024<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/They-dance_ALTERN_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;They Dance Alone&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SSATB) Another one of <strong><em>Sting&#8217;s<\/em><\/strong> powerful songs. It refers to the military coup in Chile 1973 and to the mourning Chilean women who dance the <em>Cueca<\/em> (the national dance of Chile) all alone, but with photographs of their disappeared loved ones in their hands. It&#8217;s about human suffering under tyranny and nourishes the hope to overcome it. It has been covered by a number of great artist &#8211; like <em>Billy Joel<\/em>, <em>Garth Brooks<\/em> and most recently <em>Adele<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2025<\/mark><\/strong> <strong>&#8221;<a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Heast_MP4.mp4\">Heast as net&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>: (SATB) by the Austrian artist <em><strong>Hubert von Goisern<\/strong><\/em> (from 1992).         If you don&#8217;t know his music, I can only recommend to check him out! He invented a very original style, so that I also could have categorized this piece under &#8221;Folk&#8221;, &#8221;Pop&#8221; or &#8221;Country&#8221;.<br>A lot of his songs, like this one here and <em>&#8221;Brenna tuas guat&#8221;<\/em> and <em>&#8221;Weit, weit weg&#8221;<\/em> have all become Austrian classics by now.<br>Also, <em>&#8221;Heast as net&#8221;<\/em> is very accessible even for Non-Austrian singers, because it has very little text.<br>It does contain some &#8221;Yodeling&#8221;, but it&#8217;s more &#8221;singing on yodel-syllables&#8221; than the more virtuosic style with the cracking. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2025<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Volare_MP4-2.mp4\">&#8221;Volare&#8221; (Blu dipinto di blu)<\/a><\/strong>: (SATB)<strong><em> Domenico Modugno&#8217;s<\/em><\/strong> world-hit. And although the guys try to present a good reason for that, it still might be the end of a fine romance. \ud83d\ude09<br>At a certain point there&#8217;s also an opportunity for a little dance, scat or kazoo improvisation! In order to make the music fit the human voice, I transposed the piece to G major and distributed the bass line between the basses and the altos. Another fine case proofing the independence of Bach&#8217;s music from the choice of the musical instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2025<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Von-ewiger_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;Von ewiger Liebe&#8221;: <\/a><\/strong>(SSATB) by <strong><em>Johannes Brahms<\/em><\/strong>. One of his many beloved songs. It&#8217;s an atmospherically painted rural scene of a young couple&#8217;s belief in eternal love. I think, the three different characters (the narrator, the boy and the girl) make it rather suitable for a choir rendition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2025<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Erlkonig2_MP4.mp4\">&#8221;Erlk\u00f6nig&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>: (S[S]ATB) by <em><strong>Franz Schubert<\/strong><\/em>. While originally the singer has to present the story&#8217;s four characters all by himself, in this setting they&#8217;re conveniently distributed among the different choir voices. I will definitely arrange more of <em>Schumann&#8217;s<\/em> <em>Eichendorff <\/em>settings (mainly from his song cycle op.38), because in a romantic choir program you just cannot have enough of these two gentlemen. One way to enrich the small number of choral works that this composer wrote with an additional piece. The song has an enchanting atmosphere and the most beautiful poem. There is also a slightly easier version available (where the sopranos don&#8217;t have to sustain the high f).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Music-for-a_NEW_MP4.mp4\"> &#8221;Music for a While&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SATB) <em><strong>Henry Purcell&#8217;s <\/strong><\/em>most beloved song. In this SATB arrangement all the voices are participating equally in the melodic lines. Even the accompanying parts are sung on the words of the poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>*<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-black-color\">NEW 2026<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Abendlied.mp4.mp4\">&#8221;Abendlied&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SSAATB) Joseph Rheinberger&#8217;s most popular choir work. Unfortunately, it&#8217;s pretty hard to sing.  \ud83d\ude41 Mostly because of the divided tenor part and the 1. soprano&#8217;s high tessitura. In this arrangement, I&#8217;ve changed these parameters to make this wonderful piece more accessible for amateur singers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-gray-color\">#<\/mark><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/My-lovely_NEW.mp4\">&#8221;My Lovely Celia&#8221;:<\/a><\/strong> (SATB) It&#8217;s fair to say that the British baroque composer <strong><em>George Munro<\/em><\/strong> (1675-1731) is only known for this single wonderful song. But that&#8217;s still more than other composers can claim. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-medium-gray-color\">#<\/mark><a href=\"http:\/\/immoschroder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Preview_7-Studies-for-5-part-choir.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8221;Seven Studies for 5-part Choir&#8221;:<\/strong> <\/a>(SSATB) Usually, the amateur singers I work with have certain recurring problems: <strong><em>singing legato lines<\/em><\/strong>, <em><strong>counting pauses<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>counting longer notes<\/strong><\/em> (while singing them!) plus setting a <em><strong>decisive consonant<\/strong><\/em> at the end (especially the consonant &#8221;s&#8221;; easily becoming &#8221;sssssss&#8221;). Which means that music in a more polyphonic kind of setting always got us into trouble. So, I decided to compile a set of <strong>seven<\/strong> <strong><em>exercises<\/em><\/strong>. (I do them only for max 10 min every session.) In these small pieces, every voice is repeating only one note\/line over and over again, thus being able to concentrate only on the counting. After gradually getting more challenging, the exercises reach their climax in a great<em>Halleluja<\/em>! Maybe it&#8217;s something you want to try as well with your choir?
